Our Work
First established in 1969 the Kumbia Kindergarten buildings were moved onsite to provide an educational facility for our younger residents. The building on the left was the former Wondai 6&7 school room and the building on the right was the former Inverlaw One Teacher School. The Kumbia Kindergarten closed in 2022. The Hall Committee is charged with repurposing the buildings.

01
Community Consultation
On the 12th February, 2024 the Kumbia Hall Committee met with the community to discuss the repurposing of the buildings or removal of the buildings. The community were vocal in their desire to retain the buildings for community use. A community member came forward with interest in establishing a Kumbia Day Care Centre. The community welcomed this idea and so began the journey......
02
Rejuvenation & Care
Kumbia Hall Committee members, Bill & Sandra Steffensen took on the role of Project Officers to oversee the new project. Community fundraising began to assist in the upgrade of the buildings, maintenance of the grounds whilst the Day Care Proposal was underway.
A small band of volunteers are working tirelessly to once again have the buildings ring with children's laughter. A list of works was created and so it began. A grant for exterior painting, removing trees, asbestos testing and removal, removing garden mound, fixing the ramps, fixing window fittings, removing the front ramp and reinstalling steps, painting inside, fixing plumbing, tidying the yard.............
